Bioware Announces Star Wars: The Old Republic

In what culminated as one of the worst kept secrets since Bungie announced they were producing Halo 3, Bioware let loose its own clear plastic bagged cat by revealing Tuesday that production was underway for an MMO in the Star Wars universe based on their highly lauded RPG franchise, and arguably one the best Star Wars game ever made, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.  Taking questions from press after a brief but unenlightening trailer, Bioware and Lucasarts explained the game would take place 3500 years before the events of the ever-so-loved Lucas Prequel trilogy and 300 years after the events of the Obsidian Studios helmed sequel, KOTOR II: The Search for More Money.

Upon asking Lucasarts what this new title would mean for the fate of its current sickly Star Wars MMO, Star Wars Galaxies, the unsuspecting journalist was immediately decreed "a part of the rebel alliance and traitor" and summarily taken away.

Expect this new challenger to the glorious reign of WoW the Older to drop when and only when it drops, that is unless you schedule an unannounced visit to the Studios to oversee the production personally, in which case I'm sure they'd be happy to redouble their efforts.  (Please tell me you got all those references....sigh....)
