Clash of the New Trailer Friday
Titans. Will. Clash. In. Clash. Of. The. Titans.
For you "youngins" who don't remember 1981, despite being a great year for mullets, it was also the year the mythological epic Clash of the Titans unleashed its cheasy miniatures and coarse stop motion effects on an unsuspecting, shoulder-paded world. And since you can't keep Titans locked up forever, upstart French director Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2, The Incredible Hulk) has decided to cross the river Styx and rescue the Greek legend of Perseus from murky depths of film obscurity, and put it in the capable hands of Terminator Salvation star Sam Worthington. That said, it still might be a good movie.
It feels fresh to see a true Greek myth retuning to modern cinema, as despite the iffy Troy and the stylized, speed-ramping 300, the genres of mythology and legend have largely gone untouched, despite being an incredibly popular setting for so many films in 50s and 60s. I for one would love to see more films about mythology in general, and with the relative dearth in truly "epic" movies since the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I think it would be a welcome change in pace. Remember how great movies like Gladiator were? No guns required.
Oh, and thanks to the trailer, I can confirm that Clash of the Titans will indeed include Titans in the act of clashing. Thanks for spelling that out for us, trailer...
Amazing :)
