New Trailer Friday

Toy Story 3 theatrical trailer

It's been one of those weeks, so sorry this is all I've got, but heck, it's a trailer for a new Toy Story, and that ain't half bad.  We've already had a few teasers and trailers, but this one delves deeper into the film's new daycare plot-line, as well as revealing some of the new characters, including a pink teddy bear named Lotso, voiced by Ned Beatty (Otis from original Superman movie), and a Ken doll voiced by none other than Michael Keaton.

Since this is Pixar and not some hack job by Disney Animation studios, I feel confident that this will be an enjoyable film, but I do wonder whether some of the charm hasn't gone out of the franchise.  I don't think we really needed a third installment in series, though I didn't think we really needed a second one, and that turned out magnificently well.  And even though this is director Lee Unkrich's first time soloing as a director, his Pixar service record indicates he's been well groomed to take the reigns of the studio's most beloved and iconic series.

I'd also recommend checking out Peter Sciretta's mind-numbingly in-depth breakdown of Pixar easter eggs in this trailer over at one of my favorite film blogs, Slashfilm.  Seriously, it's almost scary how many references he's found.

Enjoy and have a good weekend!

Each successive trailer reinforces that this film is a rock'em sock'em action movie, complete with classic Western chase sequences. First one is an odd-couple/buddy movie, second one is a nostalgic trip into the past (or is it a rescue flick?), and this one is The Great Escape from Sunnyside.
