New Trailer Friday

Knight & Day + Inception trailer II

Break's over, time to get back into the swing of things, including that always somewhat reliable recurring column "New Trailer Friday" where I bring you a trailer for an upcoming film that is either too cool for words, or so hilariously bad that you would be remiss to miss it.

Ok, "too cool for words" might be a bit strong for this first trailer, but I can't pass on chance to see Tom Cruise go Tom Cruise Crazy on the silver screen.  Knight & Day looks like fairly cliche premise, yet for some reason it seems fresher than your run-of-the-mill action spy comedy.  Maybe it's just my recent fascination with spotting them in modern cinema, but this is another perfect example of films trying to bring back that 80s/90s action comedy genre, and with other examples in the works like Sly Stalone's The Expendables, I couldn't be happier.

Next of the list of hardly "new" trailers, yet trailers you are almost guaranteed to have not seen, is the second trailer for Christopher Nolan's break-from-Batman, mind AND city bending thriller Inception.  It doesn't hurt that DiCaprio and Ellen Page are headlining, two of the best actors of their respective genders, but I can't get over the amazing ambience achieved by director Chris Nolan.  Just enough freak-your-mind painted on a sepia-tone, real world canvas to be absolutely mesmerizing.  I was a huge fan of the look and feel of Nolan's last between-Bat film, the period piece The Prestige, and while I think it fell a bit flat on story, I'd gladly take any frame from that film and mount it on my wall.  While clearly not designed to be the B.O.-breaking spectacles we've gotten with the Batmans, Inception promises to be the chilling, psychological ride that Nolan does so well with films like Momento and The Prestige.  Not to mention, the trailer gives off a distinctly "Matrix" vibe.  In a good way.  You know, like the first one.

Anyways, if you haven't put Inception on your "get excited about it" 2010 edition calendar, feel free to do so now.
